Asia Argento was born in Rome, Italy, into a family of actors and filmmakers, both occupations which she's pursued. As a young girl the actress began her acting career in Sergio Cittis Sogni e bisogni. The film featured her in a lead role in the film as Cristina Comencini in her first film Zoo which was released in 1989. Michele Soavi directed The Church 1989. Red Wood Pigeon, directed by Moretti in 1989, played her role as Nanni Moretti's young daughter. Close Friends (1992) by Michele Placido (both writer and director) is the year that Asia started to really become a household name. It let her progress beyond the role of cute girls to more complicated and mature character. The film was well-received during the Cannes International Film Festival. Trauma was the first film she created by her father. The mother of her, Daria Nicoledi is Argento's favourite actor. in Trauma she played an orexic searching for the murderer of her parents. The Phantom of the Opera is the third time she has collaborated together with the director's father. The others are Trauma and The Stendhal Syndrome. Giuseppe Piccioni's Condannato a nozze showed Asia's absorption way that she exhibited in her performing. She portrayed Arianna in Carlo Verdone's Perdiamoci di vista, a role which was so complicated that she received the David di Donatello prize as the most outstanding actress. Patrice Chereau directed Queen Margot as well. She had a role as the physically challenged girl in that film. In 1995, she collaborated with Michel Piccoli in Peter Del Monte's Traveling Companion , which again brought her a David di Donatello and the Grolla oro. Asia started directing short films in the year 1994. The two she directed were Prospettive In 1996, she produced a documentary on her father and then Abel/Asia, 1998, on the famous film director Abel Ferrara. This latter was recognized by the Rome Film Festival. Asia's feature-length debut came in the form of Scarlet Diva (2000) in 1999. In it, she acted as the lead actress and also wrote the screenplay. The film came out in May 2000 in Italy and the rest of the world. The film was awarded a prize during the Williamsburg International Film Festival, Brooklyn. In 2001, following the directing of a number of music videos and giving birth, she welcomed her first daughter, Anna Lou. The year 2002 saw Asia appear as Jean-Marc Bar's co-star The Red Siren (Olivier Megaton) and Vin Diesel was the star in Rob Cohen's thriller The Action. Asia also wrote some short stories which have been published by a number of magazines.
